The Ashford Methodist Circuit

Below is a list of all the congregations which comprise the Ashford Circuit. Further information about the churches and chapels can be obtained by clicking the underlined links.

What is a "Methodist Circuit" ?

The Methodist Church in Great Britain is made up of hundreds of church congregations, throughout the country. At national level the church refers to itself as the Methodist Connexion, emphasising the networked nature of the church. There are several administrative "districts" within the connexion, each of which comprises many "circuits".

The Ashford circuit links 16 different congregations. These are ministered to by two Methodist Ministers, a Methodist Deacon, and about 18 "Local Preachers". Services are also taken by Ministers and preachers from other denominations, particularly where churches have been united.

Local Preachers would be called lay preachers, or lay readers in other denominations. They are a trained and motivated group of men and women from all walks of life, who conduct services (though usually not Communion Services) throughout the Methodist Circuit .

Many of the churches on the Ashford Circuit are small village chapels. Being made of people, they, like people have characters, and every one is different. These pages give brief details, pictures and a map, for each one, but the best way to find out is to visit, and you will be made most welcome.
